In-the-Instant Tape Art

These whimsical tape art illustrations, created on 2 x 3.5 inch cards, use black or white masking tape. The images were cut with an Xacto knife or torn. Griffin was inspired by a design project developed by friend Gary Nelson.

Fred H. Griffin

Northwest artist and graphic design instructor, taught at Burnley School of Professional Art & Art Institute of Seattle from 1960 - 2010. His work was shown in many Northwest galleries throughout his career.

If discipline altogether controls spontaneity, grace is entirely lost. Thus, superb accomplishment in any art form comes at the point where the beholder and the artist himself have the impression that the work is happening naturally, of itself.
